Monastir (Ruspina)
Not
only attractively situated with its charming architecture and beach,
but also privileged as the birth-place of exx-president Bourguiba. Monastir
has become one of the foremost tourist resorts in Tunisia. Located near
the site of the Roman town of Ruspina, typically Arab in its atmosphere.
It is surrounded by a wall and battlements with small square towers.
The Great Mosque dates from the tenth century. Dominating the Ribat,
(fortified monastery) is a tall round tower called the Nadhour. The
fishing season is from April to June. |
