Djerba Island
Djerba is a unique oasis-island in the Mediterranean: over 100 thousands palm trees along a crystal sea. It is often called “Mediterranean Polynesia”. In ancient times, Girba was the eternal place in the Odyssey, where as Ulysses landed and tasted its mythical sweet lotus fruit.

The Ghriba Synagogue |
The island’s architecture makes you reflect why this land was never targeted by invaders. It has been the home of most Mediterranean civilizations: Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, vandals, Byzantines, Berbers, and Arabs. In the center of the Island, the Ghriba synagogue is located, a twenty-seven centuries old, and was build by a group of refugees who fled from the Middle-East in 584 B.C.

Djerba is famous of Guellala’s potter and Houmt-Souk’s blankets, which date back to the Hannibal regime. Nowadays, the Island of Djerba is a major tourist resort (about 50 hotels equipped with every facility you could wish, and an international airport. Major towns are Houmet Souk, Midoun, Guellala, and Ajim. Jewish community is located in two villages: Hara Kebira and Hara Seghira.
